Employers need graduates who are more than just writers or presenters. They need producers, designers, videographers and podcasters – people who can tell stories across any medium, with the technical skills to back it up. With La Trobe's Bachelor of Media and Communication, you'll learn them all.
You'll graduate with a portfolio of work, industry experience and specialised knowledge to meet demands of the rapidly changing media and communication landscape. With majors in journalism, sports journalism, media industries or public relations – you can make your degree your own.
Take advantage of The Agency, La Trobe's in-house PR firm, when you major in public relations. You'll work with real clients outside the university, build contacts and experience the public relations industry first-hand.
Or cover news and feature stories as part of Upstart and Upstart Live. Our industry-grade newsroom boasts a three-camera television studio, professional radio broadcast spaces, a cutting-edge audio recording studio and 24-hour digital editing suites. You'll experience the adrenaline of live television and radio broadcasting as a presenter, producer and vision switcher – all under the mentorship of staff.

Learn how to write, produce, report on and present compelling stories for video, audio, mobile and online platforms.
Sports journalism
Build your specialty with subjects in sport journalism, sport commentary and sport management at a university that partners with organisations including Carlton Football Club, Melbourne City FC and the Melbourne Rebels.
Media industries
Develop skills in mobile storytelling, script writing and digital, radio and TV production, including shooting and editing on smart devices and studio cameras for social and broadcast platforms.
Public relations

Professional recognition
The Public Relations major in the Bachelor of Media and Communication is accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA). Membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
