La Trobe’s Bachelor of Laws is a practical, skills-based and social-justice oriented approach to legal education. Our accredited course offers a diverse range of electives, tailoring your learning to your specific career aspirations.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognized in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.
We look forward to welcoming all of our students back onto our campuses once it is both safe and practical to do so, and in line with Government directions. We anticipate offering a mix of face-to-face and online teaching in Semester 1, 2021 across all of our campuses - detailed planning is underway based on the likely requirement for physical distancing.
Professional recognition
All La Trobe University Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor law courses include the subjects required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to qualify for admission to the legal profession in Victoria as an Australian lawyer. To qualify requires ongoing training and/or courses. International graduates require a relevant visa to complete a supervised workplace traineeship in Australia. Contact the relevant professional body for details
Admission to the legal profession by the Supreme Court of Victoria also requires the completion of practical legal training either by a 12-month period of Supervised Legal Training or by completing an approved practical legal training course (for example, at the Leo Cussen Institute or The College of Law). Candidates for admission to practice must also satisfy the Admissions Board that they are a fit and proper person to be admitted to practice. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree.
International students are advised to obtain assurance of recognition of the course by the relevant professional bodies in your preferred country of practice.
Career outcomes
This course satisfies the academic requirements for admission to practise law in Victoria. For more information on admission to practise. Graduates work as lawyers, strategic advisers, workplace relations analysts, government staff, law librarians, policy advisors and intelligence analysts.
