Our Bachelor of Finance is designed to give you core skills in corporate finance, investment valuation, economic theory and data analysis. You'll also have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of majors and minors, including accounting, management and international business. Learn in a trading room equipped with Bloomberg Terminals, then use them to get a competitive edge by earning your Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certificate.

Get industry-recognised qualifications. La Trobe University is affiliated with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and our Bachelor of Finance covers Level I of their CFA Program examinations.

Undertake a voluntary work placement with leading firms like Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and ANZ - and gain real-world experience while you study. You'll also turn theory into practice through our authentic core capstone subject.

You'll learn:

Corporate finance

Develop and manage a firm's investment and funding strategy. Critique the ethical basis of financial decisions.

Security valuation and portfolio management

Analyse financial information and value a range of financial securities using the Bloomberg Terminal. Construct an investment portfolio to meet investor goals and risk profiles.

Business data analysis

Understand the decision-making processes that govern financial systems. Learn how to use statistics when solving business problems.

Investment securities

Understand various types of securities and learn how they're issued, valued and traded in financial markets.

Risk management

Discover how to identify, analyse and reduce uncertainty in investment decision-making.

Research analyst

Research, analyse, interpret and present data on companies, industries and markets.

Financial analyst

Provide businesses with strategic investment advice. Identify business opportunities and secure investments that grow their impact.

Stockbroker

Help clients to invest in stocks, bonds and securities. Conduct analyses to determine which securities provide the greatest return on investment and navigate client risk.

Investment manager

Manage an investment fund, exchange-traded fund or superannuation fund on behalf of clients.

Financial manager

Oversee business finances and make key decisions on operations and spending.

Bond or foreign currency trader

Work on a trading desk, buying and selling currencies or bonds on behalf of banks and other financial institutions.

Professional recognition

With the completion of the Accounting major and two additional subjects, students may be eligible to graduate with an accounting qualification accredited by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ); refer to the Accounting major for further details. Membership may require an application to professional bodies and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Contact the relevant professional body for details.
