专业概况

This program is designed to meet the needs of biology majors who may wish to pursue further education in graduate school in biology or professional schools in the health sciences. The sequence of courses conforms to entrance requirements prescribed in publications of most health professional programs.

A major in the Biology Option can be declared after completing 24 credit hours and BIO 201 and BIO 202, or equivalent courses, with a grade of ‘C’ (2.00) or better in both courses.

Students can choose the following option:

Biology Option:

Must complete general requirements for B.S. Degree in Biology. Additionally, must take a minimum of 19 hours chosen from BIO courses numbered above 299. No more than 10 hours from BIO 480, BIO 491, BIO 493, BIO 498, and BIO 499 can be counted towards the elective 19 hours.

This program is designed to meet the needs of biology majors who may wish to pursue further education in graduate school in biology or professional schools in the health sciences. The sequence of courses conforms to entrance requirements prescribed in publications of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Association of Dental Schools, and the Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association. Working closely with an advisor, students may select elective courses tailored to individual needs (for example; Pre-health Professional: BIO 315, BIO 316, BIO 320, BIO 325, BIO 371, BIO 415, BIO 425, BIO 459, BIO 465).

Terrestrial and Freshwater Conservation Option:

Must complete general requirements for B.S. Degree in Biology, and BIO 466.

The B.S. Biology Terrestrial and Freshwater Conservation option provides a B.S. Biology degree plan that is designed for students primarily interested in the biological aspects of conservation science (e.g. community ecology, population biology, biogeography, conservation genetics and assessment of threatened or endangered species and habitats).

Students planning to attend graduate school are also encouraged to take CHM 235; MAT 152 or MAT 162; CSC 112, CSC 121.

Learning Outcomes

• Students should have the ability to demonstrate a fundamental level of academic competence in core biological content and issue knowledge.
• Students should be able to present biological information orally.
• Students should be able to competently critique biological literature.
• Students should be able to utilize biological literature to examine scientific questions.
• Students should have the ability to demonstrate competence in biological writing.
• A student should have the ability to understand basic biological experimental design and quantitative methods.
• A student should have the ability to apply biological knowledge to current topics.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a U.S. 4.0 scale to be considered for admission. Students must have completed the high school. English Proficiency: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 71 on the Internet-based exam. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum score of 6.0 on the academic module. Duolingo English Test (DET) - minimum score of 54, Pearson PTE - minimum score 54.
