Combine studies in accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing with the thorough knowledge of the law you need for legal practice in this double degree.

Your Bachelor of Commerce offers a choice of five majors: accounting, economics, finance, management or marketing.

Our Professional Communication and Practice in Business program provides opportunities for you to engage with business professionals through internships, practicums, case studies, travel tours, company visits and professional industry-led seminars. These experiences give you the chance to discuss current business issues and see how your studies apply in a professional environment.

We focus on developing your skills in critical thinking, analysis, advocacy, mediation and negotiation, and allow you to build a specialised degree through your elective choices. You'll also get the chance to work with judges and magistrates and undertake placements in real legal workplaces.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

We look forward to welcoming all of our students back onto our campuses once it is both safe and practical to do so, and in line with Government directions. We anticipate offering a mix of face-to-face and online teaching in Semester 1, 2021 across all of our campuses - detailed planning is underway based on the likely requirement for physical distancing.

CAREER OUTCOMES

You'll graduate with an understanding of how business and law intersect in areas such as banking and finance law, income taxation law and global business law. As well as going on to legal practice, you could work in corporate and not-for-profit organisations, business consultancies, investment banking, government or public policy.

Professional recognition

The Marketing major is accredited by Australian Marketing Institute. With the completion of the Accounting major and 2 additional subjects, students may be eligible to graduate with an accounting qualification accredited by CPA Aust./CAANZ; refer to Accounting major for details. Bachelor of Laws includes subjects required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to qualify for admission to the legal profession in Victoria as an Australian lawyer. To qualify requires ongoing training or courses

Admission to the legal profession by the Supreme Court of Victoria also requires the completion of practical legal training either by a 12-month period of Supervised Legal Training or by completing an approved practical legal training course (for example, at the Leo Cussen Institute or The College of Law). Candidates for admission to practice must also satisfy the Admissions Board that they are a fit and proper person to be admitted to practice.

International graduates require a relevant visa to complete a practical legal traineeship in Australia. International students are advised to obtain assurance of recognition of the course by the relevant professional bodies in your preferred country of practice.

Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

International graduates would need the relevant visa to complete a supervised workplace traineeship in Australia. You're advised to obtain assurance of recognition of the course by relevant professional bodies in your preferred country of practice.
