专业概况

The Department of Computer Science offers a program of study leading to the degree of Master of Science. The program is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of two kinds of students: those who have recently completed an undergraduate degree in computer science and want to further their education, and those practicing professionals who want to acquire specific academic experience relevant to their work.

Bioinformatics

A concentration in Bioinformatics teaches how to apply techniques from computer science toward solving problems in biology, chemistry, and medicine. Students in this concentration work hands on with professors in pursuit of scientific discovery & learn valuable research skills.

Scientific research is rapidly becoming a digital, information-driven field resulting in lots of data that’s increasingly more difficult to manage and understand. Bioinformatics strives to adapt the powerful information processing techniques from computer sciences to yield new and exciting discoveries from biological, medical, and health data. Bioinformaticians use powerful computational techniques such as data modeling, machine learning, data mining, and data visualization to analyze and observe biological processes like never before. They play a pivotal role in modern research within both wet laboratories and digital labs.

Duration: For non-thesis MS, thirty-six (36) credit-hours are required; For thesis-based MS, thirty (30) credit-hours are required.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have the following: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a 4-year degree equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. Applicants enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree or international equivalent will be considered for conditional admission. Minimum GPA Requirements: 2.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for all undergraduate coursework, 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for all graduate coursework. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Internet-based test score of 79 total or Computer-based test score of 550; The International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall band score of 6.5; PTE (Pearson Tests of English) Academic score of 58; IELP Intensive English Language Program: Satisfactory completion of the Intensive English Language Program at UNO; Minimum Scores on IELP Test: Listening Comprehension: 70; Grammar/Reading/Vocabulary: 63; Writing/Composition: 75.
