专业概况

The College offers a program of study leading to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. This degree is typically completed curriculum, as part of the post-BSNTO-DNP curriculum, to prepare qualified professional nurses for advanced nursing roles in the care of adults, children, and families; as well as a separate program of study to prepare qualified professional nurses to function as nurse educators for teaching positions in colleges, universities, and clinical practice settings. The program offers clinical majors in adult-gerontology primary care advanced practice nursing (AGNP), pediatric primary care advanced practice nursing (PNP), family health advanced practice nursing (FNP), psychiatric-mental health advanced practice nursing (PMHNP), and nurse anesthetist (AN), and tracks for the Nurse Executive (NE) and Nurse Educator. The design of the program allows for the development of the nurse practitioner role, the nurse anesthetist role or nurse educator role.

Throughout the curriculum, students are guided in the process of self-development to pursue excellence in professional and scholarly endeavors. The program allows flexibility within the basic curricular structure through individualized learning experiences, electives, a thesis, masters paper, research project or translational research and the opportunity to investigate an area of interest in advanced study.

The curriculum model is structured so that students will complete the program in 6 semesters (2 years) only with credits varying from 6-11 credit hours per semester. Courses are offered online and/or on ground allowing students flexibility.

Graduates of these programs are eligible to sit for national certification examinations in their respective specialties and apply for APRN licensure (APRN roles) as/if appropriate.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the MSN program are to prepare graduates as:

• Leaders, educators, and change agents in the delivery of high-quality, accessible, culturally competent healthcare in local and global societies.
• Professional advanced practice nurses who use communication, interprofessional collaboration, and synthesis of evidence-based practice, scholarship, and research in the delivery of health care for local and global societies.
• Facilitators and leaders of interprofessional health care teams who use an understanding of organizational systems and the environment and are able to integrate care services and heath care policy across local and global societies
• Critical thinkers who actively and skillfully utilize ethical principles into the translation of evidence into safe, affordable, accessible, innovative, quality care.
• Advanced practice nurses who deliver patient and family centered holistic care using knowledge of basic sciences including genetics/genomics, preventive health, and advances in health technology
• Advanced practice nurses who analyze, influence, and develop health policy that promotes access and delivery of high quality healthcare to diverse populations.
