专业概况
在这里学什么?Social work is a dynamic and challenging profession that presents exceptional opportunities for personal job satisfaction. A professional social worker helps people cope with interpersonal and social problems and obtain the resources they need to live with dignity. Additionally, social workers help communities mobilize and deliver the services and support their citizens require. The School of Social Work is committed to the core values of service, social justice, the dignity and worth of individuals, human rights, competence, integrity and scientific inquiry. We honor diversity. Employing a transcultural perspective, we train our students to practice professionally in a broad range of groups, including Latinos, Asian and Pacific Islanders, African Americans, the disenfranchised and the marginalized. Our undergraduate and graduate degree programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Our on-campus MSW program may be completed in two or three years; our online program is completed in two years through continuous part-time enrollment.
The MSW Program offers graduate professional education in advanced social work practice from a transcultural multi-systems perspective, with a particular focus in a field of practice. The curriculum has been developed to emphasize application of skills in those areas of practice where the need for social workers in the next decade will be the greatest in the State of California. The program prepares graduates for advanced practice and leadership in the following fields of practice: aging; children, youth, and families; and health/mental health. The graduate program has been fully accredited by the national Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education since 1973.
The Online/Hybrid MSW Program is a two-year program that requires continuous part-time enrollment (i.e., two academic courses and a field education course concurrently through the calendar year). In this program, academic courses are completed online (with asynchronous sessions and synchronous sessions usually on weekday evenings), and field education is completed in-person. Note that the two Online/Hybrid MSW fields of practice are children, youth, and families; and health/mental health. The field of practice covering aging is not currently offered in the Online/Hybrid MSW Program. The Online/Hybrid MSW Program degree requirements and the social work competencies covered are the same as those of the On-Campus MSW Program.
