专业概况

Overview

The Psychology MSc has been designed to provide students without an undergraduate psychology degree with the necessary skills and understanding to take up rewarding careers in the field, by providing a comprehensive understanding of biological, developmental, cognitive and social psychology.

The online programme has been developed with full support of the prestigious research groups in the Department of Psychology. It reflects the global nature of the University in its approach to theoretical and applied developments in psychology by taking an open-minded perspective that values and diversity and cross-cultural views.

Students learn with classmates from around the world, gaining a rich academic experience with the opportunity to learn from different experiences, backgrounds and contexts.

Why study this subject?

This programme alone will not allow you to practice as psychologist in the United Kingdom. However, for individuals who want to pursue a career in psychology, it will provide you with?the?core?foundational?knowledge into the discipline?and it’s a first step towards a career in the field. The experience and skills you gain will also be appreciated by employers in a wide range of professions?outside of the field of psychology.

Teaching methods and style?

This programme is designed to be studied wholly online and part-time. Teaching is delivered through our state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which provides students with access to all resources required for interactive study online. On this platform you will be encouraged to work collaboratively with classmates and actively read around your topic through our comprehensive library of ebooks and journals.

Methods of assessment

Module assessments are designed to maximise student employability. Each piece of work is based on the philosophy of action-based learning. Activities are designed to actively engage students in solving real world problems within their context, enabling them to integrate new knowledge into their individual working and social environment.

For example, students are required to gather a portfolio of evidence that they will carry with them throughout their careers and use the online portfolio as a vehicle to showcase their work.?This portfolio will act as the portal for the student employability strategy.?It will showcase their project-based work, personal achievements and resume details.

Career destinations

The scientific aspects of the programme, including the application of a reasoned approach, problem solving and manipulation of data, provide useful tools for careers in healthcare, law enforcement, finance, IT and research.?Meanwhile, the understanding about human behaviour and motivation, ability to critically?analyse?a problem, formulate a considered response, create an argument and generate new ideas, lend themselves well to careers in the creative industries, the legal sector, government administration and education.
