专业概况

This course will develop your research and clinical excellence in veterinary surgery, enabling you to transition from clinical practice into research.

Research overview

The three or four year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVetMed) and Doctor of Veterinary Surgery (DVetSurg) degrees offer a programme comprising a taught component of one year, and one or more major research projects over a minimum of a further two years.

You are expected to complete taught modules at masters level in research methods, critical appraisal of literature and research planning. In addition, you are required to submit a research thesis.

As a DVetMed or DVetSurg student, you will be allocated to a supervisor, or supervisors. Progression through the period of study is closely monitored through regular meetings with the students' supervisory committee and by reviews with an internal postgraduate progress committee in years one and two.

The DVetMed DVetSurg programme is allied to the programme specification of the PhD and as such annual mentoring, assessment and progression and the appointment of Internal and External Examiners are on the same basis as those of an PhD.

Research facilities

Our teaching building comprises a lecture theatre, large seminar room, teaching laboratories and a number of small-group teaching rooms, together with staff offices and research facilities including generic laboratories and specialist facilities such as anaerobic/microbiology, RNA and radioisotope laboratories.

Our clinical building includes a large anatomy laboratory, surgery suite, teaching laboratories, seminar rooms, a large clinical skills laboratory and other clinical skills rooms together with animal facilities.

Other school facilities include 16 stables for student horses, an indoor ménage and a student smallholding. We also have access to the University farm dairy, sheep and pig facilities and abattoir on the 100-acre campus.

The school has taken advantage of IT in its design and way of working – all teaching rooms have electronic whiteboards and students access all teaching materials online through our virtual learning environment.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students who do not meet the entry requirements stated above and students who hold a three-year diploma (Da Zhuan) from a recognised Chinese university with good grades, may be eligible for the University’s pre-Master's Programme delivered on campus at the University of Liverpool International College. Students need to have IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
