专业概况

Pharmacy is the health profession that links the health sciences with the chemical sciences and it is charged with ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs. The scope of pharmacy practice includes more traditional roles such as compounding and dispensing medications, and it also includes more modern services related to health care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and efficacy, and providing drug information.

Pharmacists distribute prescription drugs to individuals. They also advise their patients, physicians, and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications, as well as monitor the health and progress of those patients to ensure that they are using their medications safely and effectively.

Students interested in becoming a Pharmacist must eventually earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD). A Doctor of Pharmacy degree requires four years of professional study following a minimum of two years of pre-professional studies which can be taken at Pitt-Bradford. Once a student has completed these courses they can apply to Pharmacy School.
